February 24rd

Back into work but didn’t want to go
Enjoyed myself but now the line I must toe
Having a good time, but in the way gets work
Need to find a job with more perks
I have caught up with the diary online, by the way
So when you are reading, it would’ve have happened yesterday,
I can’t guarantee they will all be good rhymes
But everything you read will be in real time
Developed a cold which leaves me feeling un-cool
I’m blaming those bloody kids in the swimming pool
It could happen to anyone, I’m sure
Nothing a little Olbas Oil won’t cure
After fun filled days I find myself struggling
Different ways to record my rhyming is getting puzzling
Rock-Tober is on, I just heard tonight
Just got to match dates and book flights
Work is difficult and my soul they rob
It’s probably time to find another job
Its time I started looking a little more seriously
And find someone who really deserves me
Work should be something to get involved with
To enjoy not endure, to get given and to give
It’s been a while since I really felt worthy
So now I just do what’s put in front of me
Need a job that will quench my thirst
It’s time for me to put me first

Thursday 24 February 2011

February 23rd

Fourth day off in five altogether
Headed to West Sussex in pretty crappy weather
Get down on the floor and roll up my sleeve
Playing rough and tumble with William and Neve
Bought olives, cheese, crisps and biscuits to dunk
Had a lovely lunch and played Ker Plunk
Gave them both a wash and a bed time story
Fireman Sam to the Rescue was our Jackanory
Cups of tea and drinking water in litres
Jo prepared chicken and prawn fajitas
So much food, made my belt a little more loose
Discussing chimleys and boo to a goose
It’s good spending time with a great family and couple
Kids are lovely no real trouble
Chatting and discussing and mulling things over
Making plans for this year’s ROCK-tober
Might be flying with Jo & No in the clouds
But have to ask Frank to see if we are allowed
New kitchen regime has much more pressure
Rinse everything before the dishwasher?
Loads of food which filled a hole
Ate Williams chocolate buttons from his Buzz bowl
Seen all my close family within the last few days
Should do it more often, try to find a way
All this positive energy will keep me sane for a while
Thanks to my family for restoring my inner smile

February 22nd

At last a day off, a day to unwind?
Not a chance, kids coming over with a lot in mind
Head to the Spectrum, for a full day of doing
After we’ve stood in the rain for an hour queuing
Lots of children, men & women
Not for Ice skating though all for swimming
Queue slowly moving as more people they squeeze
Into the Swimming pool, Val bought the coffees
Finally get in and the melee continues
Ended up getting changed in the loo’s
Get in the pool, not too much room
‘Uncle Gavin will you take me on the flume’
This is what I hoped would happen
Acting like a child around the children
Queuing again this time for the fun
Nodding to other adults ‘he won’t go unless I go on
Of course he would and he soon decides
He really doesn’t need me for the water slides
Time is up and before we go bowling
Fill our bellies that have a hole in
A burger and a beer is what I like
But it stopped me from getting my regular strike
Pride at stake playing for the Hardington Cup
Ronnie’s wins but he had the barriers up
Head back to the flat all worn and floppy
Having a chat, a biscuit and a coffee
They all leave and get home safe and sound
I really love having the family around

February 21st

Very quiet in work no need to get stressed
A few early arrivals, checking out 8 guests
Spent the morning sorting holidays out
First come, first served so there should be no doubt
Until it happens my plans could still be blighted
So I’ve learned to not fully trust or get excited
In the lead for the upgrade challenge is me
So could win three nights in Italy
All this work malarkey has me in a haze
Just as well I’m off for the next two days
The nephews coming down, what fun we’ll be having
Bowling and Swimming, they love their Uncle Gabin
Went shopping for a few treats for tea and lunch
Came back with Vanilla Red bush and biscuits to munch
Made a lovely risotto with vegetables and chicken
Apparently the dish works better when you put stuff in
Caught up with my latest LoveFilm DVD
Karate Kid remade by the entire Will Smith family
The story much the same, change not too drastic
It lacked the edge of the original, can’t beat a classic
Jaden Smith did well, Jackie Chan was lovely
Not a patch on Daniel Son and Mr Miyagi
I wonder if they’ll remake the second, third and fourth
Or trample other classics like Mannequin or Teenwolf
I am allow to keep watching films when they arrive
When I give up TV for lent, will I survive?

February 20th

Request for a late start on Monday rejected
Had to change the ferry from the one previously selected
But had a lazy Sunday on the Island down south
Took a seafront wander in the lovely Yarmouth
The tiniest town with the smallest Lloyds bank in
The masts on the yachts all clinking and clanking
A new mariner will make the births wider
We discussed the changes over half a cider
Looking at the sea through the antiquated lanes
Watching the boats coming in and going out again
Got to get the ferry back later tonight
I really do enjoy seeing my folks on the Isle of Wight

February 19th

Towards a lazy morning with a full Monty, heading
But what is the time, damn we are late for the wedding
For the loving couple, it was just as it should be
Getting married in a church from the thirteenth century
A fantastic day, shown on everybody's face
Even better once we had found the place
Rings and vows, hymns for songs
Vicar getting Anacias name wrong
They were both very gratified and the wine was flowing
One Mum cried and the other read a poem
All our best wishes for now and the coming years
It was so emotional even the cake was in tiers

February 18th

Finished work around three thirty p.m
And headed down to Waitrose Cobham
Before going to the Island, to make sure we get that far
I washed, filled with petrol and checked the tyres on the car
Back to the car park to wait for my lady,
At five o’clock we hit the A3
Arrived safely at port waiting to be watered and fed
Pretty much sailed through the troubled Hindhead
On the ferry to join Anna and Dave and their new tans
Fridge stocked with wine, beer and fizz in cans
Credit to fantastic Mother and greatest of Fathers
Settled down to eat homemade chicken Enchiladas
Beers, wine, food and desserts a plenty
Fill up here when were running on empty
Eat until we are full and drink until we are merry
We even had a small hot chocolate coming over on the ferry
Gave Dave his present a book, plus writing kit
Not sure of his reaction or what he made of it
Of my writing they were respectful and loving
Mum kept asking ‘where was the real Gavin’
Well this is me, Ma, with love, it’s meant
I’m even giving up watching television for lent
See, I’m up for a test; I’ll challenge the faithy-est
It’s what Jesus would do if he was an atheist

Wednesday 23 February 2011

February 17th

If you have been paying attention with no shirking
You’ll notice that this is my eighth straight day working
But this weekend is when I revive
Then I’m off for four days out of five
Half term approaches, it’ll probably start raining
The niece and nephews will need entertaining
Hopefully hooking up with my little family
We’ll go to them or they’ll come and see me
I feel as if I haven’t seen them in a little while
Their beaming faces always make me smile
Naughty Neve with her eyes and appetite
The rough and tumble boys putting the play in the fight
I want to giggle and laugh and just be silly
Make faces and sounds ‘willy’ and indeed ‘nilly’
Uncle is the greatest place to be
Hand them back if they are naughty
Tomorrow we’ll see father and mother
To catch up on their holiday and one thing and another
Back from holiday all sun sea and sand
Returning from two weeks away from the Island
Saturday wedding really can’t wait
Especially and the Wife and I get to go out, on a date!
Just one day left of work before
Off to Dave’s and the drinks he’ll pour
Me and the Wife we’ll get lots of time to speak
A pretty packed uneventful Valentine week

February 16th

Wednesday morning and another slow one
Trying to get my head around today’s pun
Amalgamating my thoughts and my memories
About what the last twenty four hours have done to me
Back to the place with the work offenders
Only after seeing Tom in Eastenders
Strong part and good performances all round
Tom wanted to take the poor girls last pound
He also popped up in the advert for Virgin Media
Now there will be more about him on Wikipedia
Hopefully fame and fortune are Thomas bound
Someone needs to find a great talent as yet unfound
Broke my phone and feel like a fool
Replaced by one that’s proper old school
No camera no radio and as I further inspect
No blue tooth or infrared or even predictive text
My touch type has now gone down the drain
And I'll have to learn how to spell again
It’s not a problem, I don’t mind that much
Another way to help me stay in touch
Put a plea out for all my friends to text me
But only got replies from my close family
Don’t remember numbers, my mind needs jogging
I’ll have to keep in touch by daily rhyme blogging

February 15th

So I’m suppose to do one of these everyday
But I’m running out of things to say
But how are my thoughts going to sharpen
When nothing really seems to happen
But today I’m writing something to really move me
I’ve opened the cornflakes because we’ve run out of muesli
My woman broke my heart and left me alone
She’s at work after stealing my valentine Toblerone
I haven’t spoken or text anyone in days
Parents abroad and mobile broken in a million ways
How can I be a tortured soul?
When my life is so un-rock and roll
Still upon my shoulder there’s no chip
I’ve managed to commit to a stable relationship
My life is so balanced a good way to judge it
Savings going up and living to a budget
Don’t go out boozing on weekends and getting all pensive
Buying alcohol during ‘the big shop’ is much less expensive
I’ve got great family and friends, who are so supportive
Switched to Olivio to be less hypertensive
I managed to control my driving and have a clean licence
I can now put my thoughts online with greater confidence
My life has had its ups and downs and has ebbed and flowed
I like being middle class and middle of the road

February 14th

Happy Valentines, a day to be pleasant
Up early with a card and a present
Wifey bought me a huge chocolate triangle
Trying to eat it leaves your mouth in a mangle
Had some time to chat and stuff
But one alp is never enough
A strange Monday feeling of positivity
Until I get in to work and it’s just me
Get a chance to check my email as I’m all alone
‘It’ll cost fifty quid to fix your phone’
It’s not an amount I’m willing to pay
As I get my free upgrade in may
Eating chocolate before midday, diet doesn’t matter
Now my goal is just not getting fatter
So exercise is the key to fit into my top
I’ve started walking from a further bus stop
Instead of sitting while it drives around the houses
I get off and walk to fit nicer in my trousers
Cutting out crisps and sugary pop that fizzes
Time flies when walking and listening to radio four quizzes
I’m on lates all this week until Friday
Then come five p.m, we’ll hit the motorway
Looking forward to seeing my folks
To having ginger beers and full fat cokes
In the diet world, I’m something of a fraud
But calories don’t count when eaten abroad

February 13th

Work this morning and you know I don’t like to moan
But there were sixty check outs and I was there on my own
I’ll suck it up as I don’t like to bicker
If anything it makes the time go quicker
Fish chips and beans for dinner
Classic food a real quick winner
Watching another Gervais film ‘Cemetery Junction’
Heard mixed reviews but making no assumptions
Having watched it, I thoroughly enjoy every minute
Massive praise to the film and everyone in it
Watched the flick then off to bed
With an image of Pilkington’s perfectly round head

February 12th

Can’t believe that the Bootleg thing was a week ago
From the buzz I want to reap, so I am starting to sow
Carrying on daily with this rhyming malarkey
Writing down things as they happen to me
This time next week we’ll be on the Isle of Wight
To have a lovely wedding day and night
No days off between then and now
We’ll just have to get through it, together, somehow
Keeping chirpy and chins off the ground
Physically tired but mentally sound
Keep the shirts well ironed. Suit grey, tan or blue?
Looking forward to the doo, when they say I do

February 11th

Egypt free after 30 years within the last hour
Big up to the people who have taken back the power
They were never given a chance, a voice never heard
But they stood together to speak and the world heard every word
A message passed down from father to mother
No one man is better than any other
They were asked if they could do it, they replied yes we can
Stand up and be counted shoulder to shoulder, man to man
If we’ve learned anything from the not so great dictator
It’s that life’s too short to let make anyone hate ya'
Control your own destiny, roll your own dice
It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice
On a lighter note, we went out for dinner
Plans out the window for trying to get thinner
Popped out for a Valentine weekend
Couldn’t think of a better way, my time to spend
Did my hair, Karen wore a pretty dress
Headed down to Pizza Express
Chatting away, getting all vocal
From the pizza place we headed to our local local
In to the Sovereigns for a drink or three
Tried pound coins in the quiz machine then 50p
Machine out of order at the start of night
We would have only ended up getting everything right
Out on the town on a Friday night Karen and Gav
Great meal, great chat, me and the best mate you could have

February 10th

Dave’s birthday but no present for him
He’ll be laying in the sunshine of going for a swim
I’ll have to speak to him when he gets home
Cos from this morning I have no mobile phone
A friendly man came in a brown uniform and truck
Says I should get a new one but knowing my luck
I’ll get the broken one back in a few more pieces
And have to give ‘the man’ more cash as he continually fleeces
HTC and Orange better get it alright
Otherwise our future won’t be so bright
In work in the afternoon and the continuing farce
Not knowing ones elbow from arse
People are working when they should be away
Trying to work honestly for an honest day’s pay
Checked in on facebook and updated the blog
Whilst supposed to be working like the proverbial dog
Continual progress of the daily poetry
Up to three an hour, Bavarian like efficiency
Writing today is different somehow
Fells like there are more eyes bearing down
As I’m writing Wife’s on me but isn’t a bug
Writing with my left arm and with my right arm I hug
I hope that she will continue to admire me
Or at least give me a hand to write my diary

February 9th

A productive day, I cannot moan
Apart from when I broke my phone
Got to send it back to HTC
And hope its covered by it warranty
Can’t communicate with Wifey, family or Tom
So I have joined up with Blogger.com
So you can enjoy my words any old time
Everything will be available online
Diet is going well although I did have a lager
To get my brain box bubbling and continue the saga
All in all I think it was quite productive
The blogging site was beginner instructive
Bought card and a present for that wife of mine
To help celebrate good old Saint Valentime
Ferry is all booked for our weekend away
Looking forward to the Macedo wedding day
Dieting so should be a little leaner
Wedding suit has gone off to the cleaner
England beat Denmark in a friendly game
Positive result and testing new players was the aim
Forgetting Sarah Marshall on TV, can’t knock it
Very funny film featuring our own Rusty Rockets
Remove Sim card place on the side
Package up phone, hope HTC can revive

February 8th

Tuesday again nothing much going on
Late start for both, hanging round the home
Karen’s working pm stretch so she has the car
Preparing breakfast of croissants and pain au chocolat
Watching the end of Transformers two movie
Drinking down wife’s unwanted smoothie
Lounging around in the living room
Before working in the afternoon
Both on a healthy eating plan
On a fat free and alcohol ban
Work passed by with nothing to report
Checking in with people of all different sorts
Some are nice, some rude, some German
Some have manners some need more learning
Isn’t it Strange how some folks talk down?
Others smile and laugh some just nod and frown
Some bark orders for this and that
Some argue the toss over added VAT
Some treat you nicely the way we deserve
I’m not your servant but I am here to serve
Rhyming slang lost on my shirkers and no thankers
Flying workers and merchant bankers

Tuesday 22 February 2011

February 7th

Monday Monday and I’m paying the toll
For staying up late and watching the Super bowl
I still don’t understand how it has the power
To make sixty minutes last for 4 hours
A televisual feast with effort you can’t knock
I watched it all and went to bed at four o’clock
So lazy morning when I rose from my pit
Headed to the lounge and on the sofa I sit
Catching up with Love film and Q.I
Falling asleep with Stephen Fry
Got a wedding in two weeks to attend
So the diet and nutrition are on the mend
Stay away from sugar and drink lots of water
Eat half your normal food, or maybe a quarter
All going well and off the fatty foods I wean
Until I took a trip to the works vending machine
Never had the orange juice thought I’d give it a whirl
In the tray I find a free pack of Smarties and a Twirl
Is this the devil trying to tempt me?
Or a classic example of faulty machinery
Given me chocolate when I didn’t even buy it
Lord don’t you know I’m on a diet
I’ll take them away add them to my plan
Sometimes it’s good to be the bigger man

February 6th

Had a great night at Bootleg and all that
Headed back to Woking and woke up in the flat
Lazy morning with toast and tea
Then headed back to complete Bootleg 3
Great people, great talents very enjoyable
Conversation on my wavelength, feeling comfortable
Everyone heads downstairs to continue the night
Enthusiasms of others convinces me to write
With next year’s Bootleg in mind, we must organise pronto
Fasten seatbelts for Bootleg 4, Live from Toronto

Thursday 17 February 2011

February 5th

In London for the Bootleg day two
Back in to the screenings for more films to view
Spent morning around Streatham, saw Sarah Beeny
Headed to Wimbledon to hang out with Darren Ali
Saturday off, filled it with relaxation
Pub, food, mates, beer, football, six nations
Headed back to Balham from Wimbledon
Sat down and put some more movies on
Great turn out for the Saturday night
Must be the great company and bright lights

February 4th

Bootleg opening night a really great Friday
But of course, it didn’t start by going my way
Balancing the books was unbalancing me
We took twenty grand, I couldn’t find 35p
Couldn’t leave until I had found a cure
Got on my way bout half past four
Didn’t look back when I was gone
Got in got changed put my bootlegs on
Got into Balham enjoying the festival
Vinyl was on final the film we love best of all
This weekend in essence, I’m a single man
So decided to stay in London where I can
Zoe’s Dad’s place was my place of picking
Got there, had rice and the greatest ever chicken
Shared a beer and some more conversation
Table display like a Christmas decoration
Feel good and comfortable, meal gone too soon
I’ll stay here again, I get my own room
Been a long day so I’ll rest my head
In a lovely bedroom but not on the bed
Looking out on the garden waiting for Tom and Zo
I need to get myself a desk by a window
Had a nice drink and feeling alright
Great people, great food, great films and good night

February 3rd

Wow today is like a brand new day
Mum and Dad off on their holiday
Going into work like the corporate slave
New eyes, new razors, clean hair, clean shave
They may be expensive, the five blade Gillette
But the really are the best a man can get
Contact Tommy bout Bootleg and Darren Ali
Bout what’s going to happen and who wants me
Going to enjoy the weekend and give all I can give
Mix and mingle and think positive
Wifey away for the weekend also
Her hugs will be missed by my hairy torso
She is off to see Val to make her Birthday
To show her what she is really worth day
Our paths seem to wander aimlessly
Bumping into each other accidentally
It will be worth it in the bigger picture
When we get to write our own scripture
But for now we’ll just have to make the most
A day in the city or weekend by the coast
Anycia’s special is where we are heading
We’ll catch up with each other at the wedding
Until then, we’ll try not to get stressed
And hope that Karen ticked one plus one guest

Wednesday 16 February 2011

February 2nd

Morning starts for the both of us
Up and at ‘em with the minimum of fuss
Seven until three to do as I’m told
Then check tyres, petrol and new light bulb
Back home but tired, sleepy eyes
Wide awake for dinner, mmmm posh pies!
Mopped up with chips and gravy
Classic example of my favourite savoury
Snuggled down to watch a movie
Everyone’s favourite grey head Mr George Clooney
Work has been okay a little more at ease
Have a better attitude, tentativeness has ceased
Had my review of six months, six months late
Asked me to judge my performance rate
He said that I lacked skills, my energy was draining
I said ‘I had no motivation or direct training’
He said he was thinking of leaving as being pursued
I wondered who is supposed to be being reviewed
He suggested I might be better in face to face situations
I said that’s why I was hired for front of house ‘Guest Relations’
I said I would manage front of house, get the style back
Currently the lads have a severe guidance lack
Argued round and round in the same way
At work, everyday is Groundhog Day

February 1st

Tuesday has become very difficult
So not a great poem as a result
Here’s a rundown of Tuesdays bumph
To start us off in our second month
Got up later as Karen’s off day
Smoothie drink, starting in a healthy way
Got my haircut cheaply as a standby head
Tweeted a little and facebook read
Bathed and shaved and brushed my teeth
And just before work a few more tweets
Wifey was off, so popped into Guildford
To try and buy her just rewards
She said that it’s really doing her head in
Trying to find something to wear for the wedding
She came home empty handed today
Except for the newly located GBK
Shopping for a dress is absolute murder
But at least we now know where to get a good burger
With that in mind whatever dress she buys
Better be available in the larger size
Back to me on a personal note
I don’t think I’ll ever fit in my waistcoat

January 31st

Monday morning, slow, day starts to drift
Until I met girls aloud, well, one fifth
Nicole Roberts, normal, sweet with charm
Her talking voice was a bit life a car alarm
Just wandering around in pure normality
It’s nice to see the person in the personality
Apart from that, nothing to say
Only that it was transfer deadline day
Gills doing well again, spent eff all
Torres fifty million and thirty five mill for Carroll
Put ‘Happy Birth Dave’ on the internet
Hope it’s well received, no feedback yet
Looking forward to Bootleg and seeing everybody
Bit of a bummer as I’m working Friday
Going to invite everybody I know to come have a look
Well, everyone who responds to my request on facebook
Will be great to see and chat with them
Heading to Clapham and then on to Balham
Wifey and I have no work this weekend
She’s with the family and I’m out with friends
I know we’ll get it right, it’ll happen before long
They say ‘what don’t kill you makes you strong’

January 30th

Working again, another early morning
Very quiet Sunday, slowly dawning
I don’t mind Sundays, guests stay in their beds
Croaky voiced phone calls with weary heads
‘Can I get a late checkout’ and ‘what time is morning meal?’
Probably sounding as bad as they feel
Came home watched more footy, cooked some fish
Sesame oil and olives, a real ‘special’ Jamie dish
Wifey said sarcastically that it wasn’t great
But there was no food or patter left on her plate!

January 29th

Got an email from Lovefilm.com
Looking for me, wondering where I’d gone
Watch our films streamed to your TV
Buy one month and get two months free
F.A cup weekend Man Utd vs. Southampton
Saints one up, Utd score two late on
On my own for the afternoon, a lonely creature
Only kept company by making a pizza
Express ones sold off at half price
Added own ingredients to make them more nice

January 28th

Late shift for me, Karen just lays in
When I try to be quiet, I make such a din
Putting away the pots, pans and such
Could wake the dead, but Karen, not so much
Been invited to a gathering after work, not sure
Working the late then early, I need my time to snore
Paid my money so will take my chance
Grahams stag, the tower, Blackpool not France
By all accounts it should be free from stress
Steve says that he’s bought Graham a dress
So to the party after work we went
Wondering what sins there will be to repent
It’s good to see the people unwound
Ben being dj to limited sounds
A nice set of digs and good spacious zone
His roommate is hardly there, he mostly on his own
He is proud of his newly acquired address
A classic example of single manliness
I seemed to worry, more than any other
Music quite loud, am I turning into my mother
More get together I’d like to see
I’ll sit in the corner and drink my tea
I might not be the life and soul anymore
But I still have the repartee and rapport

Tuesday 15 February 2011

January 27th

All in all, not a bad day today
Much the same as others, it went the same way
Pretty unimportant and ordinary sort
Where you can only learn what you want to be taught
Started to enjoy work and the people, mostly
Started to smile and take it less seriously
Karen’s off tomorrow and I’m doing lates
It gives time together as housemates
We’ll chat the chat and the breeze we’ll punch
And as a treat I’ll cook burgers for lunch
Just watched the film about Ian Dury
A man who was messed up, purely
Incredible talent and heartfelt as well
It took the Big Serkis to make the big sell
It was beautifully shot, and at times uncomfortable
Reminding all not to dis the disable
You can achieve what you want, just go and get it
If you don’t take a chance you can never regret it
A poet, a chap, a geezer and a gent
‘Fuck off you’re all fired, Go and be magnificent’
Oh and Jason Allen was on the T.V
Crimewatch you say, No, Come fly with me

January 26th

Day off went well back to routine
Try to make it look as if I’m a little keen
Counting the days, won’t be long at all
Until next day off is Bootleg film festival
Got info through about Grahams stag doo
So we’ll have to change dates of Avenue Q
Cooking Risotto trying to impress my baby
But instead of buying stock I bought chicken gravy
‘Really enjoyed it’ were her actual words
Roasted veg and a secret blend of dried herbs
Went to the pub and wrote a poet for Dave
Flowed quite nicely in an emotional wave
It came quite easily once I had started
Show the old man that I’m good hearted
Time to switch off now, Time for a snooze
Dream about my job on Sky sports news
Was the public outcry an overreaction?
One left the other was forced extraction
It’s nice to be nice, as they teach in school
And I often struggle with the off-side rule
I’m not sexist, but wear the trousers in my family
I will do the washing up and ironing when it suits me
Cancelling LoveFilm subscription took its toll
But still get to see Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll

January 25th

What have I done with my life today?
Scowled the internet for new ways of pay
Wandered the high street, bought Big Issue
Got new Adele album and some toilet tissue
Waited for Wife to return from Waitrose
Had a shower and got into day clothes
Applied for a job on the Isle of Wight
With a man whose service we said was shite
I hope he forgives me, just like a saint
Because we did actually log a formal complaint
On and off with the laptop and heating
Updating facebook and endless tweeting
Public outcry is getting scarier
Sexism in football is A Gray area
A fantastic pun, my mind is getting fitter
I have plagiarised that joke from twitter
Football on the telly with a final at stake
Arsenal verses Ipswich I hope I can stay awake
Gills are playing tonight as are Man U
Last I heard they were both losing nil two
Gills lost, Manchester turned it around
I think this year it will be them Champions crowned
Wife’s gone to bed as up early in morning
My eyes are closing too, sleepy warning

January 24th

Day twenty four and I’m still writing
Two dozen not out, quite exciting
Hopefully today I’ll do something worthwhile
Or try to get through the ironing pile
Rise up early from me sleep
Watch Q.I and Quantum Leap
Do some more writing, try to find my path
Do the washing up and having a bath
Monday was slow, nothing happened in a hurry
Took nearly an hour to cook my curry
Popped down to the shops to grab wine for the meal
Left Wife alone to watch her Ally McBeal
Went to the post office around the corner
To collect wife new fitness regime Zumba
Watched Comedy awards on Channel four
Tried to watch a Denzel film, poor!
Book of Eli and Deja vu wasted my time
He should be arrested for his acting crime
If he is the standard to which many aspire
They should only watch ‘Man on fire’
Off to bed again without doing a thing
I wonder what the next two days will bring

January 23rd

A lazy Sunday morning in my land
Spoke to Jo and Ma and Pa on the Island
Saturday and Sunday and wife’s off, of course
But later it’s me again being the work horse
Still come Tuesday it’s my time to skive
Time to chill, unwind, recharge and revive
Or I could use the time a little more wise
Round off my squared eyes
Open my mind and my ears
Maybe even earn a few cheeky beers

January 22nd

Alarm goes off and bangs in my head
I’m off to work, wife stays in bed
An evening with friends was really good for me
Especially when mentioning the Stagiversary
Got back home, asked the wife for a plan
We are off to Jamie’s for an Italian
Train to Guildford then a thirty minute wait
Well worth it, we both cleared our plates
So back in Woking and feeling like shite
Guess I’m no longer able to go out Friday and Saturday night

Monday 14 February 2011

January 21st

Feeling good leaving work, in fact quite merry
London tonight Chris’s birthday, Legendary!
Organised all of works bits, my final little chore
So when the time comes around I’m heading out the door
Got map, got cash and even got my oyster
Got my discount voucher, tonight I am the Joyster!
Headed home from work, picked up by the Wife
Meeting up with people, who have made up my life
Chat to them about memories past and problems current
Finding out that it’s not just me, a feeling warm and pleasant
Arrive at the Warwick, on time, and head downstairs
Quickly huddled by the Falvs, moments all too rare
Catch up on everything and the mood starts to soften
Always moaning and asking why we don’t do it more often
Lovely feeling, drink flows, but isn’t something wrong
Chris is here, Andy and I but where is little Tom
He was in Victoria, in the wrong Warwick pub
A story acting like the salt into which his wounds we’ll rub
Tom arrives smiling but pretty pissed off
Need to drink cider and more beer to quaff
Drinks and friends my souls ablutionary
Chris wasn’t wrong, tonight was legendary!

January 20th

Hold my hands up and as Sawyer expects
Missed today so I write in retrospect
You’ll still get a poem and thoughts from me
All that happened was work then a Woking coffee
So allow me to take you on a little tour
Some words from my mind, written before
‘I turned off my music to listen to life
To hear complaints from husband to wife
Discussions on politics and sport
Dry sense of humour, the English sort
How the leaders we trust are full of sin
Turn pod back on and place earphones in
Everything is better when put to music
Bus stop arguments seem somehow poetic
What started off as a dull walk in the park
Becomes a choreographed fight between jets and sharks
Drum beat moves you to your own pace
A pneumatic drill becomes a stringed double bass
Words ring more true and tell a story
Orchestrating a drunk man and his former glory
Music takes you to where you want to be
A packed club at night or alone on a boat at sea
But walking around Woking with all its palaver
Is helped by local maestro, Weller the Mod-father’

January 19th

Another day off and what to do
Head into London for an interview
Will I be liked? Is it the job for me?
No it was a third party, an agency
It didn’t start well as you’ll see
Upon leaving the flat, a bird shat on me
If I could catch that bird I would squeeze & pluck
Apparently it supposed to be good luck
I was on time at the time as I collate
But my good luck had made me late
Got the right train after all that fuss
On and off tube into Piccadilly Circus
Met a lady who was nice to me
She even bought me an earl grey tea
Fill in this and we’ll tell you what to do
But don’t call us, we’ll call you
Up early so stayed in London for a look
Called up my friends on trusty Facebook
I was in London calling, Should I go or stay
To London and back and all before midday

January 18th

Day off together and away went we
Runnymead via Walton for afternoon tea
Walton was nice, better than thought
Went to do shopping, but nothing bought
Except for wife who purchased sequins
In a lovely dress for wedding weekends
Three weddings this year and a funeral
Rest in peace Auntie Marion, love from us all
To the Runnymead then for cakes and pies
And yes it actually remained a surprise
Finger sandwiches, scones and clotted cream
On the banks of the Thames a beautiful scene
Money in the car park a Merc and a Porsche
Celebs having tea oh look its Paul Walsh
The misses tucked in, and put the world to rights
Six sarnies and cakes and expandable tights
Soft pants on all nice and loose
Feeling stuffed, must have been the orange juice
A doggy box with cakes to the lid
Not bad at two for twenty quid
Still got robbed as in the menu I see
Seventeen pounds, buy one get one free

January 17th

I don’t know what happen today
A little queer, you might say
Got frustrated about working alone
And wrote this on the bus home
Trying to do my best was my decision
Get chastised by man with blinkered vision
Why should I do my best, it’s never good enough
I’m trying to make it easier, you’re making that tough
You are supposed to inspire me, manage and evolve
But you think around you the world revolves
I’m stuck in a hole, but I don’t fit
You don’t care so I don’t give a shit
I want to love living and being worthy
But somehow you see fit to ignore me
But my soul has wings which you can’t ground
You can’t stop Karma coming around

January 16th

Another afternoon really dragging on
It’s hard to do, enthusiasm gone
Started shite and then got shite-ter
This is starting to compromise me as a writer
Hurry up end of the week, me thinks
Going to London for Chris’s birthday drinks
One morning mourning is all I have to do
Then it’s away and off for two
A surprise planned for my baby
Will it stay a surprise? We’ll wait and see

January 15th

Ended up on the B.B.C somehow
Playing a new quiz Highbrow/Lowbrow
A new game and more fame beckoned
Did okay but came in second
Tommy phoned, Bootlegging soon
All being well we’ll be skyping at noon
What a weekend it’ll be up in town
Heading up so as to not let them down
Posters out, a thorough campaign
Big and little Tom there, difficult to abstain
Very close to my favourite activities
Seeing friends, drinking and movies

Sunday 13 February 2011

January 14th

Both up early and off into jobs
Out the door with wallet and key fobs
Work day dragged beyond belief
Still trying to turn a newer leaf
Housing people from across the oceans
No real problems just going through motions
It’s not too bad, I don’t really mind it
But I had an ideal which has now been split
Good job to love and fill my time
Or crappy job, fill spaces with interests of mine
Got a call from the Danny Baker show
Asking a question, what do I know?
Wanting me on the opening game
Living off my Sausage sandwich fame
A brand new game with actual questions
Hope I live up to my bold suggestions
Bootleg Three is mostly organised
New posters out, very stylised
Looking forward to a great weekend
Watching films and seeing friends
Hopefully Ross will be involved
Get his kind of Vinyl revolved

January 13th

With the weather this year, quite a raw deal
Floods in Australia, Sri Lanka and Brazil
Obama inspirational with his shooting speech
We can learn a lot when good teachers teach
Other than this it’s been a quiet week
As a new career, I begin to seek
If only I could narrow down
I’ve started looking in the local town
To see if I can start a new
I just don’t know what I want to do
Emailed theatre radio and B.B.C
To see how far it will get me
Giving more to what I’m giving
Living more for my living
Stay positive and don’t get have stress
Never say never and always say yes
Try to make me a more content chappy
Fulfilled and filled up with happy

January 12th

A rare day off together
Hampered by the inclement weather
Tom was here on the night, last,
So all up for 10am and full Monty breakfast
Tom left at eleven, wife went back to sleep
I sat on the sofa watching Quantum Leap
Wanted fresh air so walked in the fog
Constructed ideas about starting to jog
Orange Wednesday so off to the cinema we totter
Deathly hallows part one with Harry Potter
Sweets eaten and no bargain wine to sup
Settled in to watch Disney’s’ UP
A beautifully moving opening montage
Featuring a loving couples life collage
Wife gives my hand a loving squeeze
UP beats the specky magician with ease
Disney got it right the smiles and sorrow
Back in the old routine again tomorrow
No lottery win again, it’s just not cricket
I should meet them halfway and buy a ticket
It’s not just me with a feeling of quirk
I working hard at trying to like work

January 11th

Tom popped in from the big smoke
Picked up the mood, he’s a bloody nice bloke
Had a chat and something to eat
Made the world all nice and neat
Went to write in the station
Hope it becomes a regular occasion
Drank some beers from Japan
This is good to do, when we can
Went Dutch on lunch as feeling thrifty
A full plated meal for just £3.50
Feeling full we headed back to the flat
Hoping to continue the chit and the chat
Set up the music just as planned
But in no time at all, both in Zed Zed Land
Snoring loudly and jaws a dropping
Wifey turns up with the shopping
Bargain of the day made me excited as a kid
Wine for nine pounds or two for eight quid
To see who is brainiest without refute
Out comes millennium edition trivial pursuit
I won, of course, but I know that gloating’s a sin
I will enjoy small victories, as I never win
As times ticks on, we retire to our beds
Having filled our bellies and emptied our heads

Saturday 12 February 2011

January 10th

Monday Monday and back to work
Back to being a reception clerk
Suit on with shiny new civility
Taking on unpaid responsibility
Very busy with lots of arrivals
So new and some revivals
Having celebrities is quite nice
There’s that lady from Dancing on Ice
It’s the morning after the night before
Lots of hazy stories and heads all sore
One day on, then two days away
Making the most of my off days
Do I hit the town and drop the bomb
Or do I just stay in with little Tom
I could fester like a dirty squatter
Or take the wife to see Harry Potter
Look around from a job more worth while
Try to restore my inner smile
Just something to help pay the mortgage
Put my ideal away in storage
For now a job to balance my life
Or to help me spend more time with the wife

Thursday 10 February 2011

January 9th

And so to Work for our Christmas bash
Dressed to impress and looking flash
Three course meal and complimentary Vino
All that’s missing is a fun casino
Same old people with different looks
Reception, Housekeeping, Events and Cooks
The night warms up and before it ends
The team congregates and starts to blend
The Oscar statue with the golden sword
Celebrating the best dressed award
Dinner over, Disco on, chairs vacated
Start to feel a little alienated
Try my best to speak to all
End up feeling quite anti social
I don’t mind it; it’s not something I fear
I really wish my friends were here

January 8th

Watched our first show of the year 2011
Headed down to the Mayflower Southampton
The very last performance of Aladdin
Paul ‘O Grady in drag again
All the way down to the south coast
To see the Lady / man we love the most
Of course it’s all tongue in cheek
As we take our front row seats
A family atmos, all very pleasant
‘It’s behind you’, and’ Oh no it isn’t’
Clapping, cheering and laughter hearty
Oh and we saw Jon from SClub party

January 7th

Another day and what a day it’s been
Watched a film I’d already seen
Halfway through, I wasn’t sure
Is this X-men two, three, or four?
But mostly it has been a lazy time
This makes it more difficult to make up rhymes
Drove back from Swindon, washed the car
Spoke to sister and Ma and Pa
Collapsed on the sofa in a heap
Caught up with Quantum Leap
Checked in on facebook, read email
Tommy and Andy are on the comedy trail
Bootleg is coming sooner than thought
Still have to watch films, long and short
Tomorrow they will give me one more phone call
To see if it’s red sauce, brown sauce or no sauce at all
Sausage sandwich has been put on hold
Until Danny gets back or the rights are sold
Of to Southampton to see Lily Savage
Still celebrating our 5 years of marriage
Just getting started, haven’t yet hit my peak
This is the end of my first rhyming week

January 6th

Happy Anniversary for me and the Wife
Just getting started on our real life
Got loads of card, ready to open
Envelopes ripped with the help of our Godson
Lovely day spent in converted train shed
Wanted to buy new clothes and new bed
Ended up by buying some shirts and tea
Vanilla bags and paisley by Banks, Jeffery
This part of Swindon is actually quite nice
It’s the only bit I want to visit twice
Winding down now and the kids having their tea
For the sake of old times we are having a curry
Little unsure of ordering mains and a starter
As I have just found out the place is called Tarka
My instincts were right, dinner was a scary one
They put chicken in the Tikka vegetarian
Full apologies as they sent another one
With extra Naan breads and several poppadom
How much Indian is enough, I’m never sure
They mess up your order and bring you more
Mine was fine could have done with being hotter
Last time I have food from a place named after an otter

January 5th

So up in Swindon to see our friends
Taken for a meal in Frankie and Bens
A childless evening cos of babysitting Jackie
Scoffing food keeps us all happy
Sipping Piper and shooting the breeze
Comfortable friends feeling at ease
Mains came and went far too quickly
Grahams belly mixture feeling sickly
Frankie and Benny’s for all our needs cater
We work hard for our shirking waiter
He did alright but only one blip
I owe Graham two pounds for his gracious tip
Drinks have dried and bellies stuffed
We really don’t do this enough
Back for the babysitter, Fifa and tea
Girls head off to bed a little early
All in all, a really great night
Just like the old days on the Isle of Wight

January 4th

A pretty good day all in all
Been asked what I am wearing to the work ‘Ball’
I didn’t realise it would cause so much stress
Do I wear my suit or my pretty dress?
But before Sunday there’s a lot going on
A meal, anniversary and two nights in Swindon
Looking forward to dining with friends
We graciously grab the arm that extends
Off for a meal a chat and a drink
We shall scoff the grub and glasses chink
The wife and I have been together a while
Yet we still tend to make the other smile
It’s important to still have some fun
We’ve been together since the millennium
She may have thought me a little vaunt
But I knew she was all I’d ever want
Back then we worked amongst the chalets
Now I am the mountain and she is the valley
I had to deal with original rejection
In her perfect world, I was imperfection
But now I’m her spoon and she is my dish
Together forever, lobster lobster fish fish

January 3rd

My wife left me today, Boo!
What start is this to a year all new,
How will I manage, survive, get by,
Perhaps I’ll sit in the corner and cry,
But wait, maybe there’s a trick I’m missing,
Don’t sit around, thinking, reminiscing
Use the time well, get benefits and reap,
Watch the football and endless Quantum Leap
Drink the drink, chew the fat,
Make sure you shoes are on the mat
Get a dirty plate, use a used cup
Just remember to do the washing up
Leave the door open when in the bath
But use the shower to rinse the aftermath
Put music on to relax after my labours
But not too loud, think of the neighbours
Watch endless repeats on TV
Get some sleep, you’re up early
So remember this Wifey, whenever you’re away
I’ll still clean my plate and wipe my tray
You’re considerate thoughtful and a little O.C.D
All your you’s, make me, a better me
Five years passed since the licence signed
You may be out of sight but you are never out of mind xx

January 2nd

It has been quite a nice day today
A little work, a little play
Trying to balance my yang and yinging
Fish and chips and fitness wii-ing
Whether on a skate board or on virtual skis
I’d soon worked off my two jay dees
Cutting down, trying to be a smaller me
Didn’t help much, Wii age fifty three
Being this size isn’t really a curse
If I stop playing Wii at least my eyes won’t get worse

January 1st

So New Year, new challenge, new book
Its time to take a further look
To see what I could actually achieve
If I start to live and to believe
In a year’s time, when I look back
You'll discover that I have the knack
To write mini rhyming verse daily
Maybe someone will see fit to pay me
Either way it’ll help keep my mind alive
Here's my starter for three hundred and sixty five

A year in the blife

So this is where it happens is it, my first blog, my first small step, this year I have decided to keep a diary, no, I have decided to keep a rhyming diary and then share it online, I have no idea who will be interested in this, if you are reading this then thank you for your time, you cleary have nothing better to do, please keep all views and reviews honest and open.
I hope you enjoy this next 365 days, see you on the other side! x
