November 28th

And so I'm back at the scene of the crime
where I began my challenge of rhyme
It's here where just a small idea
Led to spoiling the best part of a year
Where's the year gone all bright and glossy
All my moneys been spent on coffee
It's only served to make my brain ache
The coffee didn't even keep me awake
The different flavours I have tasted
The countless hours I have wasted
I didn't see it coming, but they saw me
Buy 9 drinks and get the tenth one free
Skinny frappachino, chai tea mocha
I'm forgetting how to talk proper
so when my mind needs to deliberate
I head to the place that's become favourite
when I know my writing is pending
I look for esquires and follow the penguin
It's a nicer place to waste my time
And so I'm back at the scene of the crime

November 27th

Christmas is coming the turkeys getting scared
As jingle bells ring and happiness is declared
The food is bought with most over shopping
Awaiting full bellies and empty stockings
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
This was Christmas growing up in my house
Annual pictures of happy son and daughter
A bottle of ginger ale, bitter lemon and tonic water
Ferrero rocher and sugared almonds
Christmas jumpers worn by Noel Edmonds
Same films on, video set to record
A beautifully stocked and decorated sideboard
Endless booze bottles took up all the space
No one invited but it was 'just in case'
Mothers been up and cooking since dawn
Slaving over starters of avocado and prawn
Into the lounge in full Ellis styles
Presents stacked into individual piles
Taking turns to open presents
Family feeling burning incandescent
Eating and drinking too many calories
These are still my greatest memories
Christmas day over, but there is no sorrow
do it all again with the Carrolls tomorrow

November 26th

Ah routine, how are you, its been a while
Quickly dropped back into the old style
But this time different, I'm focused and steady
And for the next step, I'm getting ready
As one year closes, up opens another
And I edge closer to the back cover
Nearly there, you get the hint
It was a marathon, not a sprint
I can take time out to thanks my supporters
To my Wife at 'Gav' headquarters
You give me the strength for succeeding
Lending eye and ear to proof reading
You are my light, my shining sun
A part of you appears in every one
You are a helpful daily editor
And a great idea barometer
Thanks to my parents, from you son
Cos Dave 'likes' every single one

November 25th

No more dollars, no more high rise
But through the buildings I can see the skies
No more New York no more tourists
No more walking through the people forests
No more time being a day dreamer
No more thinking that the grass is greener
We had our holiday we've had our fun
it's time to finish what's been left undone
Time to seize opportunities
and engage again with superfluity
Climb back up upon my horse
put the writing back on course
I've got more reasons for my rhyme
and now it is 'can do' time
This at first was inconceivable
No its becoming tangibly achievable
It's fraternal now, it's not just me
I've got readers reading in Germany
Thank you for reading, I'm suitably impressed
I'll buy you a stein at the next Oktoberfest

November 24th

Nowhere does Christmas like New York
They light the lights and pop the cork
Each building is more magnificent
The brighter the lights the less efficient
But no one seems to bat an eye
Except the stopping passers by
Trees and windows full of swank
8 foot soldiers outside a bank
Even the corporate trucks and cars
Are decorated with snow and stars
And for the intrepid Jewish explorer
You'll find the occasional menorah
The outsides of Macy's and Bloomingdales
both have their special window trails
Thy incorporate a Christmas mantra
And people pay and queue for Santa
Back in the UK it's a bit of a flop
How will Santa know where to stop
New York has decked the halls with holly
And it tis the season to feel jolly

November 23rd

The realignment of paths diversed
The difficulties of roads traversed
A realisation of a frienships worth
Rekindled with a song
I used to see you on a day to day basis
Unified by our remote oasis
We sat still but travellers places
Buddy it's been too long
When we meet it will be like then
We were just boys but now were men
Take no time to get back again
Happily turn back the page
Been waiting to see you today
To talk of memories of our yesterday
Grown up in that child-like way
Good friend never age
Nothing fills me with more pride
Than when strangers positively collide
the inner talent drawn outside
No reasons, its just because
And so I travel through waterloo
compelled by memories of you
Jumping in our kangaroo
Just great is how it was

November 22nd

I've walked along the Hudson
I've seen the lights on Broadway
I've seen yellow cabs by the dozen
I've opened up the New York doorway
I've waited wished and wanted
To see your sky rise blocks
and now my dreams are haunted
And I don't want that feeling to stop
New York I kept you waiting
A diamond that rose from the sea
Now, New York and I are dating
I hope that New York loves me
I've toured around your well know sights
I've explored your concrete jungle
I've stood upon your highest heights
and felt so lucky and humble
I have been there, I did explore
I would like the clocks to rewind
I might not be in New York any more
But New York is forever in my mind
